Complaining About Raid Difficulty

Today, I saw this in the forums, titled 'Stone Guard Is Way Too Difficult':
"Been wiping on this for a while now, and we kinda gave up on it because our tanks can't see the energy bars of each individual boss to know who's going to overlord way before it does, so they know who to keep seperate and who to keep in a pair (10 man). We've pretty much given up on it until we get some gear through LFR."

My response:
"I usually don't post on the forums but this kind of irks me. Why do people never see difficult encounters as a challenge to become better. Instead of overcoming an obstacle, you cry about it and ask someone to make it better for you. I guess I just don't see eye to eye with this kind of mentality.

Also, I think this kind of 'player' is a monster of Blizzard's own creation. Their overly accomodating attitude towards their playerbase causes this kind of reaction when things are too hard or too easy. It's not their fault, because it keeps business, and involving the community in their design has given them a loyal following, it just has a really pestersome and childish dark side to it."

Really now? I just can't believe that after "a while now", you'd just give up. This content has been out for five days, and I'd wager a large some of money that this person hasn't raided this boss on each day. Want me to tell you how long it took the team I was with to kill Heroic Deathwing? 124 bloody attempts. My response still stands, I am always shocked to see something like this.

I agree with you Solar, this is the type of attitude that was spawned from Wrath of the Lich King, and hasn't gone away. Blizzard has done this to themselves by continuosly nerfing content, thus giving the "entitled casual player" a platform to argue.

My raid team downed Stone Guard the first night, after half a dozen wipes. It's not that hard to track the energy bars of all 3 bosses, and if you are somewhat intelligent you can time the Overloads without much difficulty.

I'm praying they don't nerf this fight, it's a good barrier to entry to keep out people like that OP who, quite frankly, shouldn't be raiding in the first place.

I disagree with the fact that those people shouldn't be raiding. If you want to, you should be able to and most definitely can. Blizzard has supposedly desgined this tier to involve LFR so that players who aren't *quite* ready for normals still feel involved and engaged.

And to touch on my second point and elaborate just slightly - I mean that by swinging the pendulum back and forth (i.e. introductory Firelands bosses were challenging, Blizzard made introductory Dragon Soul bosses very easy, we went 4/8 in one night) - so by swaying back and forth, you will begin to see some players morph into a position where they feel that their level of play is always justified no matter where the diffculty of the raid tier stands.

I think this basically comes down to the main problem everyone will face at some point in their wow career. The search for instant gratification in the form of purplz pixels and achievments while still keeping a constant feeling of progression.
Wiping to a boss for hours at an end can feel lame but that guy who complains of the difficulty will probably not mess around too much in heroics, wich means that when he downs all the bosses in normal difficulty, the Dragon Soul-esque repetition will come and you wont have anything to progress towards. For me, it is that progression that makes me enjoy the game.
Without the difficulty of the boss, the sense of gratification would be diminished, and because of that, nerfbatting bosses too much would resoult a less enjoyable tier of raiding.

I think the normal modes so far are tuned pretty good, you have to work a little for the kill but not to the point of exhaustion. As a somewhat hardcore heroic raider i cant wait for the heroic mode to unlock next week, i think the fights will be really challanging and involved.

Disclaimer: Im from sweden and i blame bad spelling on the fact that it is 05am here.

I believe T14 is difficult to players because Dragon Soul was so easy and we don't have " last tiers' " gear to help us with the content. Doesn't anyone remember week 1 T11, Hell, month 1 T11? I don't know if the comment about "...quite frankly, shouldn't be raiding..." comment was meant to come across with such a negative connotation. @deedeedee If so, it's unfortunate that you see other players as lesser because you differ in challenging content. To say they shouldn't be raiding YET would be appropriate and it looks like they've realized this, and made a plan to continue with normal content when they're ready @ LFR ilvl. I like the fact that these guys have realized they're not talented enough to do normal content the first week and are utilizing the tools they have available to them to progress and get the job done. Solar, unless you've misquoted the OP or cut out where they were actually complaining about the tier difficulty I see this merely as a way to call out and see how many other guilds had the same troubles they're having. Plus receive some advice from players who've had the issues and overcome them. I also agree I don't want to see this content nerfed at any rate any time soon with the extra ilvl's players will get in LFR these bosses will fall over much more easily.

I also agree with Solar. If you are having problems with a mechanic, then YOU need work on that mechanic, or you need to, simply put, Learn to Play. I haven't had a chance to raid yet. Mainly because I am missing a few people yet. But as main tank, and raid leader, I can tell you this much.... we go until the boss dies. Wasn't it like Method or something that wiped 500 times on Heroic Rag, and they still kept going. Granted if your wiping that many times on the first boss, you should probably learn a few things before you go in.

There are two things the OP should ask themselves:
1.) Is it a gear issue?
2.) Is it a mechanic issue?

If your hitting a enrage timer, or tanks are dying, or healers are going OOM. You probably need to gear up, and come back. If its that your tanks can't read an energy bar, then you probably need to work on that. I personally have NOT done this encounter. I have read/watched strats about it. Its similar to the Council fight in T11. Different mechanics, but you watch a bar, you tank swap, and you move on. Not saying its easy, but thats the tanking jest of things.

Too many people go crying to Blizzard because something is too hard, or too easy. They can't make everyone happy, but they have tried. LFR is there for a reason. I know I will be running it on Tuesday to get a chance at some loot, and some experience with bosses. Normals are there for raiders. And Heroics/Elites are there for those types of raiders. Its just how it works. There is no need to nerf anything when its not a numbers game, tanks aren't getting hit harder than their health pools, DPS doesn't have to be insane to kill a boss.... if your mechanics check is working, and people can't get past the "gate" then that comes down to the persons group, not the raid encounter.

Most encounters have been introduced in other aspects of the game already. Scenarios, Heroics, quests, etc. The little energy bar is not something new, the room may be, but the looks of things are the same. People need to check themselves before they start pointing fingers at the Devs. And the devs need to look and go... Its the first week of raids, maybe this person needs to check themselves. I may go look for this thread and see what type of gear their tanks have.

I think the OP wasn't complaining so much about gear and difficulty so much as he was complaining about a mechanic (ie. Not having a visible energy bar for each boss).

Blizzard has addressed this in the past via the "boss health bar" window on the side of the screen. Maybe that's would help in this situation.

Of course, if they could tank the boss for me and dps it a little, too, that would be nice. :)
